There are currently three distinctive courses delivering unique educational opportunities to train in multi-disciplinary approaches to therapeutic wellbeing practice for children and young people sharing influence from youth work, social work, mental health, therapy and education. The training and education of students to become qualified and competent practitioners is in a most creative and relational approach to wellbeing.


Course One: Certificate in Therapeutic Communication Skills for Children and Young People (Level 4)

This course introduces students to principles of professional practice, applied therapeutic thinking, creative and relational therapeutic counselling skills. We introduce students to inter-disciplinary perspectives, therapeutic philosophy and emotional literacy. This course runs on nine weekends over three terms in a period of one year.

  • Principles of Inter-disciplinary Professional Practice with Children and Young People
  • Applied Therapeutic Thinking
  • Creative and Relational Threapeutic Counselling Skills

Course Two: Diploma in Wellbeing Practice for Children and Young People (Level 5)

This course introduces students to fundamental multi-disciplinary perspectives, creativity, human potential and wellbeing with placement and options in applied therapeutic counselling through key working, mentoring and creative group work as well as integrative and relational skills. This course is delivered on weekends and Fridays including six days per term over three terms. Children and young people need a wide range of interventions and therapeutic wellbeing practitioners are trained to be able to identify needs and refer to specialist counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers, play therapists, educational psychologists and many other allied health and social care professionals.

Course Three: Diploma in Community Wellbeing for Children, Young People, Families and Organisations (Level 6)

This builds on and develops the curriculum from course one and two, strengthening and consolidating the relationship between theory and practice. This includes applied therapeutic counselling in the context of a community wellbeing project designed, managed and evaluated by students in placement. This course is delivered on weekends and Fridays including six days per term over three terms. Therapeutic Wellbeing Practitioners can enable organisations and communities to become more emotionally literate inspiring cultural and systemic change to promote enhanced relationships with parents, carers, teachers and overall staff wellbeing.

  • Advanced Multi-Agency Perspectives
  • Creative and Relational Community
  • Wellbeing Advanced Integrative and Relational Skills

Placements
Practitioners participate in placements in health, education, social care, private, statutory and/or charity sectors working to promote wellbeing through creative approaches including:

  • Sports
  • Leisure
  • Art
  • Communications
  • Complimentary Health
  • Technology

  • Key Concepts and Applied Therapeutic Thinking
  • The Therapeutic Wellbeing Relationship
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health
  • Child Centred Facilitation Skills and Practice
  • The Language of the Child and their Participatory Voice
  • Reporting, Research, Evaluation and Data Protection

Supervision/Reflective Practice

Students are required to attend regular supervision/reflective practice for at least five sessions a term with a qualified and registered therapeutically trained professional and fifty sessions of therapy as part of their personal development and training.


Open Days
The Wellbeing Faculty hosts regular Open Days to meet the staff team and to liaise further about professional opportunities for training and development in Therapeutic Wellbeing Practice. This can include Accreditation of Prior Experience and Learning providing consultation for different pathways.
