Please note, application forms must be submitted in advance of attending a Taster Day.
A Taster Day/Application Day is an essential part of the application process and a crucial introduction to all courses forming an integral part of the interview process.
These days are tailor-made in such a way to allow for tutors to begin to build a relationship with you and for you to start the process of using the Arts as a Psychotherapeutic tool, across all levels.
Taster Days begin with a pre-recorded presentation from our founding director introducing you to the clinical techniques, theory and practice covered on our training programmes illustrated by case studies. This is followed by hands-on workshops, a Q&A session and group interviews.

Do I have to submit an application form?
An application form is not mandatory, but we strongly advise you to submit one and attend the group interview part of the Taster Day.
If you are unsure of which training programme you wish to apply for, you can either select more than one option or choose ‘I don’t know’. You may not know what you want to do right now, that’s okay, you can make this decision later.
When will I receive details of the day?
Taster Day details are sent to all applicants by email the day before the scheduled event.
When will I hear if my application has been successful?
Taster Day outcomes are sent via email within 2 weeks.
Some applicants may be asked to attend a second interview, facilitated online.
In some cases, we may extend a conditional offer which requests applicants to do some more personal work (i.e., attend personal therapy) before receiving a confirmed offer.
We are unable to provide individual feedback to applicants.
Do I have to accept my offer now?
All course offers are valid for 2 years so you can choose not to take up your place immediately. Should you delay your acceptance for more than 2 years you will need to attend an interview, facilitated online. Taster Day events do not need to be repeated.
What is your cancellation/refund policy?
Taster/Application Day fees are non-refundable.
Our duty of care to applicants
Therapy training programmes and interviews for such courses can be emotionally challenging, please be aware of this before applying.
All counsellors and psychotherapists must undergo extensive personal therapy, all of our training programmes require students to attend weekly therapy from the beginning of their chosen course.
Second interviews may be organised for one or more of the following reasons:
- to ensure that the training is not going to be too stressful for an applicant
- to ensure the training does not trigger a harmful reaction to an existing or past condition
- as a further opportunity to extend the application process when it is felt that we need to get a better sense of the applicant
- to ensure that the training is going to meet the applicant’s professional needs.
Applicants should not be alarmed if they are asked to attend to a second interview as this is standard practice within our organisation.
Should an applicant be accepted on a course and then prior to starting that course, act in a way that gives admissions staff a personal readiness concern, IATE has the right to withdraw the offer and/or to re-interview.
